Our Proud History
Hobart Harmony started in 1996 with a small passionate group of members, including our current Director Jenni Pyefinch. In 1997 Jenni took over as musical director. In 2000, Hobart Harmony Chorus travelled to Perth (WA) to have its standard of singing judged for prospective membership of Sweet Adelines International (SAI). Since 2001 we have been a chartered member of the Sweet Adelines Australia (SAI Region #34)
Today
In Australia, there are over 1,400 women singers, in 32 Choruses spread around the country. Members sing in choruses and quartets, performing regularly in public and competing at regional and international levels.
The Sweet Adelines Australia national competitions are held annually.
During our history, Hobart Harmony has won several awards, including the Most Improved Chorus medal in both 2015 and 2018.
We co-hosted the Regional convention at Wrest Point in Hobart in 2008, 2009, 2015, 2018 and 2019, and several of our members took on the "anchorman" roles for the 2020 Virtual Convention event. We took part in the 2022 Video Contest as part of the worldwide effort to get back into competition, and are planning on competing live again in Brisbane in May 2023.
