Hobart Harmony is 20!!

Hobart Harmony has a big year in 2021: we celebrate 25 years since the chorus first formed, and an official 20 years of chartering (becoming fully-fledged members) with Sweet Adelines International. To kick start our celebrations we had a chorus dinner at our retreat, with cocktails, food and of course a wonderful cake!

We are so looking forward to opening our doors for new people to come and join us and have a go at singing a cappella! We're going to be working on a couple of really fun songs, including "Don't Stop Me Now" and "These Boots Were Made for Walking"! Check out the flyer and come along from Monday 15th Feb, 7pm.

Let's Get Physical!

After 4 months without face-to-face rehearsals, we've had two this week! The first was all about movement, with great activities from our visual leaders, a special guest dance teacher, and then social drinks! Two days later... our first singing rehearsal since March. So wonderful to see everyone :-)

Zoom-a-rehearsal

What happens when you can't physically get to a chorus rehearsal? Why, go online of course! Nothing like a virtual catch up and sing with all these beautiful people! We even managed to have 49 online at once on Monday last... maybe we'll get even more next week!

Coaching with Kim Vaughn

Coaching with a legend of Sweet Adelines! Kim Vaughn spent the evening with us, giving us wonderful advice on pulling together our unit sound and keeping the key centre, sprinkled with lots of singing wisdom, and snippets of humour. We cannot thank her enough for her time and the tools she has given us to grow into the future!

Band Camp 2020 with Traci Voss

What an amazing weekend we had with our coach Traci Voss, director of the Melbourne Chorus! So much work on our contest songs, as well as lots of socialising and even an in-house show. All of our fabulous prospective members attended for at least part of the weekend too, experiencing the satisfaction of working with a coach in such a focused way. We love our "band camp" - what a fabulous kick start for the year and our lead up to competition!

Directors' School 2020 - learning to be HUMAN!

What a fabulous Directors' School we had this year, with the amazing Mr Cy Wood once again sharing his knowledge of all things about authentic performance. With it being a "visual focus", each chorus in Australia was able to send TWO visual team members in addition to the Director and Assistant Director. Oh what fun we had!! And for Jenni, the first time as the Directors' Coordinator, co-convening the event. Can't wait to bring our learning back to the chorus!

A Cappella Taster at the Taste!

Hobart Harmony were so excited to be invited to perform at the Taste of Tasmania this year, but when we were "blown of the schedule" with high winds causing the Taste to be cancelled Monday night we were very disappointed. Luckily, we were given a second chance to sing in the closing concert on Friday 3rd Jan, and it went down a treat with our audience! What a great way to start a New Year of singing!

SAA Quartet Workshop in Hobart

Twenty of our members attended the Sweet Adelines Australia Quartet Workshop in Hobart on Saturday 2nd November, with our fabulous Regional Education Faculty member Linda Wareham. We are SO appreciative that our region provided us with this opportunity, and are looking forward to more and more quartetting moving forward. Even those who prefer slightly more than "4" in their "quartet" found lots of things that are applicable in all our singing adventures. A big thanks to Linda - it was a wonderful weekend!
